Italy and Poland continued...

Pardon my further parallels between Italians and Poles, but as I noted earlier we really seem similar in many respects. Well, the girls may be a bit more blond and blue-eyed as you travel North, substitute pasta for potatoes, sun with snow, and you’re probably not a far cry from reality. Yet, closest resemblance seems to be in the political realm. Both countries are in dire need of reform. Politicians, however, are increasingly preoccupied with themselves rather than with what the public mandate obliges them to do, that is effective policy making . In Poland we say that ‘cała para idzie w gwizdek’ (eng.: the entire steam hits the whistle; meaning that the whole effort/energy is wasted). One may think how relevant are our old friends Friedrich and Karl in this regard, but I’m sure both the Italians and Poles would agree:

Replace the government of people with the government of things!
